Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Have we even gotten to the fear of the Lord in our walk yet? Or are we quick to claim we have wisdom apart from this?
Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
The Wilderness, our Cross, instills in us a fear of God. A Holy Fear that then gives birth to wisdom. The “they” in this passage are those who knew God through nature, through creation, but did not want to be accountable to God for their behavior. If there is no God to be accountable to, then they would be free to sin.
No fear of God.
In touching the wilderness and its moment-by-moment perils, we encounter the awesome truth of our frailty and need for grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
We find insignificance in the universe and yet Significance in Him. and if we are still, we find that the riches of His beauty and His strength become ours, undeservedly. This exchange is not to be found by those who do not touch the Wilderness, or the Cross. Those who want a shortcut will find temporary glory and power, but their thinking is void of His wisdom and their hearts have become full of deception, and glory fades quickly.
They have become like those who call evil good, and good evil. (Is 5:20)
Fear of God is a higher fear. If you fear God, you have lost your fear of man. The rest of your journey is to then please the One who created you for greatness, and nothing else matters.
Not even the greatness you were created to walk in.
