What hill do you want to die on?

I am opening your eyes to see how fallible you are, that you would know the length of your days are few and that you are a vapor in the earth. Therefore, set your heart on things that are eternal.  I will respond to a humble heart, so choose to enter a battle that will be remembered for generations to come, not one that comes from your swollen heart which brings you relief but setback to your friend.

Which hill do you want to die on?

I got this word this morning — while reading Psalm 39 “I will guard my ways that I would not sin with my tongue”  and right at that moment, while I read, I had a thought about something and brought it up to my husband. His response triggered something in me, and I responded back to him and it triggered him further.  Then I got quiet and held my tongue.  And the Lord said “Which hill do you want to die on?”

We are but a breath on this earth.  What do I want to be known for in this life?  What is my call?  Do my actions line up with all that God has put in my heart for years or do I want to be known for the things I say out of a swollen heart, filled with anxiety and anger and zeal?

I want my actions to count for glory.  I want my actions to make a real difference in this life and THAT is the hill I want to die on.

Psalm 39: 1
I said, “I will guard my ways

That I may not sin with my tongue;
I will guard my mouth as with a muzzle
While the wicked are in my presence.”
I was mute and silent,
I refrained even from good,
And my sorrow grew worse.
My heart was hot within me,
While I was musing the fire burned;
Then I spoke with my tongue:
Lord, make me to know my end
And what is the extent of my days;
Let me know how transient I am.
“Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths,
And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight;
Surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah.
“Surely every man walks about as a phantom;
Surely they make an uproar for nothing;
He amasses riches and does not know who will gather them.
