The Lord gave the word; great was the company of those who proclaimed it. Psalm 68:11

Stop “Taking Authority”

Luke 10:19 “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.”

“Though I have given you authority in the spirit, I will require you now to walk in it.”    From December 2017 (https://darlenerose.wordpress.com/2017/12/31/word-for-2018-the-battle-for-legitimacy-in-authority-and-truth/

If you have to take authority, you haven’t been walking in it to begin with.  The Lord had given it, therefore you can either receive it or reject it.  If you reject it, the enemy will have authority over you.  If you receive it, you will have authority over the enemy.

Who is your enemy?  Anyone or thing that wants to deceive or destroy you or who or what you love.

For way too long, the church has been “taking authority” as if it has not been given already.   Here is an illustration of what that looks like.

If you only eat from Sunday to Sunday as a matter of practice, you will become malnourished and susceptible to disease.   So you go to church and ask for prayer for healing.   You’ve waited all week til the following Sunday to ask.  But you haven’t had nutrition all week, nor fellowship with the Lord all week.  How does that work?

“Taking authority” is grabbing hold of, in name only, the authority given to trample an enemy, and you might scare him away briefly, but he will just return at a more opportune time- during the week when you are not “walking” in authority.

Here is another example.  You are a parent of a toddler.  Do you instruct, discipline, and guide only when your child is out of hand, getting into everything, and being “terrible?”  Or do you lead, guide, instruct, and discipline every day in order to prevent disaster?

Okay so you get the picture.  “Taking authority” makes no sense when we have been given it already.   The Lord has given us time and space to learn how to walk in authority, but I believe he is going to start requiring it because we have an enemy who is being unleashed in greater measure

Psalm 41:11 By this I know that You are well pleased with me,
Because my enemy does not triumph over me.

It’s because God wants us to walk in what He has given us.  He is pleased because by faith, we have taken what we don’t see, and have applied it in our lives knowing He lives in us and has all authority in heaven and earth.

So why do we have to keep taking authority?  We already have it.

Back in December,  I wrote “Though I have given you authority in the spirit, I will now require you to walk in it.”   Emphasis on require.

The resources that we have had in the past, to substitute for walking in our God-given authority are diminishing.   I am telling you that you must stop “taking authority” and you must start, if you have not begun already, walking in it.
