Sing Unto the Lord A New Song

Hey girl, I want you to know
I’m going to miss you so much if you go

I woke up with the song “Hey Girl” on my mind. Why? I had not heard this since I was a child but yet, it was stuck like an ear-worm in my brain boring holes.

I’ve sat here in meditation, waiting. I’ve read the lyrics and I’ve read 5 psalms, waiting. Funny, when looking up the lyrics, I noticed it was sung by many but my eyes saw “Temptations.”

Sometimes the lesson of taking every thought captive is knowing what is a distraction, or a “temptation” to dwell on too long. They will serve no purpose to me.

Taking every thought captive means to make your thoughts SERVE YOU, rather than you serving your thoughts. It means to make them a slave to your purposes, rather than becoming slave to them. It means breaking vows because thoughts become vows to obey when you agree with them.

So, where am I going and who will miss me if I go? This song makes no sense and needs to be discarded from my brain. Not sung again with changed lyrics.

Sometimes you just need to sing a new song.

Exodus 15:2 The Lord is my strength and my song

The Lord is my strenth and my song
And He is become my salvation
Amen
And I will prepare my heart
And I will prepare my heart
And I will prepare my heart this day
Hallelujah

There is a song now going through my mind, a song I heard from the late 1980’s by a female artist I cannot recall, but this song she sang, only the first few lines, is running through my brain….. May this song now fill that place where ear worms bore holes… May this song fill me with life for He is Life

HE IS MY SONG

One response to “Sing Unto the Lord A New Song”

  1. Yes!

I don’t know how many times I’ve let my thoughts “talk,” pushing anything the Lord has to say into the background.

Thank you for this. It only points out how fallible we are, not just as individuals, but also in expecting leaders to be “better!” LOL! I have to laugh at campaign commercials… in my district, they’re talking about how they expect Washington to be like their experiences in Nebraska.

Oh, dear…neither of them have ANY idea.

I love your writing. I’m so glad you took it up again!

    Karen
