Lawyers are required to be honest but not truthful.

Lawyers must be honest, but they don’t have to be truthful. Honesty and truthfulness are not the same thing. Being honest means not telling lies. Being truthful means actively making known all the full truth of a matter. Lawyers must be honest, but they do not have to be truthful. A criminal defense lawyer, for example, in zealously defending a client, has no obligation to actively present the truth. Counsel may not deliberately mislead the court, but has no obligation to tell the defendant’s whole story.

Is Satan not a legalist?

A legalist ADDS to the word of God; human rules and traditions that become vows we make. They become a law within ourselves that we start to obey, whether we consciously understand this or not.

So when someone says they are just being honest, ask yourself “But is it TRUE?”

As a legalist, Satan can redefine the original use of the word “Honest” to mean “Truth”. Once you believe that it means Truth, then you are somehow obligated to believe that all who are sincere are speaking truth.

Psalm 17: 1 Hear a just cause, O Lord,
Attend to my cry;
Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips.
² Let my vindication come from Your presence;
Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright.

³ You have tested my heart;
You have visited me in the night;
